Adventures in Fine Dining

Since Damien started teething, we decided it was time for him to start experimenting with different baby foods. He's been eating some rice cereal since about 3.5 months because he's so big the formula just wasn't doing it for him, so we decided to sweeten the palate a little. So far he has tried peaches, green beans and carrots, pictured above. He likes the carrots best. We still have about eight other foods for him to try out. He makes the greatest faces the first few bites, because it surprises him when the food doesn't taste like formula. Feeding him is always an adventure!

Damien Glenn Wilson

Damien is the cutest baby that ever lived. He was born on November 19, 2007, at 10 lbs 9 oz. He is an extremely mild-mannered baby and almost never cries for any reason other than hunger. He can entertain himself for hours on end, but never needs to because he is just irresistable. Here are some of his baby milestones so far:

Smiling at mommy: 1 month

Standing (with help balancing): 2 months

Laughing: 3 months

Saying "mamamamama": 4 months

Rolling from back to front: 4 months

First teeth: 4.5 months (two bottom ones, SO cute!)

Our Story

We realize that many of you know very little about at least one of us (if you know very little about either of us, we're not sure why you're here :) so let us tell you a bit of our history.

Holly is 23, and she grew up in Colorado Springs. She loves to play the piano and read. Her greatest claim to fame hails from an incident in church when she was a toddler. Have you ever heard those long-winded old men who apparently wanted to speak in the meeting pray? Well, some ancient self-proclaimed orator was making his closing prayer the keynote talk in church one Sunday, and the DeFord family was sitting patiently waiting for the monotony to end, when Holly's mom realized she no longer had her second daughter next to her on the pew. She looked up just in time to see Holly lean forward and place both hands emphatically on the bench in front of her and yell "SAY AMEN MAN! SAY AMEN!" He did. Holly has never lived it down.

Kyle, 22, grew up with two active-duty-Airman parents. Needless to say, he has lived all over the world. He grew up with a love of sports and video games, and a rather dry sense of humor. As a baby and a young child, Kyle's most distinguishing characteristic was his amply-sized head. Although it took him a while to grow into it, Holly thinks he managed it with particular flair. Kyle considered many professions, in all of which he would have performed spectacularly, and eventually ended up carrying on his family's proud legacy of service in the US military.

So how did we wind up together? Well, we attribute it to a lovely little place called "MySpace." Holly had just moved back to Colorado after about 10 months in Utah, and Kyle was extremely busy with work and school full-time, so we both sought out interesting conversation online. We emailed and chatted online and on the phone for several weeks to make sure neither was extraordinarily crazy (because we both are a little bit insane) and Kyle made several attempts to convince Holly to meet him in person. It took a while, but we finally met on April 28, 2006. The day we met, Kyle decided he didn't want to let Holly slip away, so he asked her to be his girlfriend, and we've been inseparable ever since. We were married on August 30, 2007, and Holly gave birth to Damien on November 19, 2007.

Kyle went to basic military training from September 11, 2007 through October 27, 2007 and then headed off to California for tech school. He went back to Colorado in December to meet his baby, and picked up his little family and moved it to our home here in Seaside. And that, in a nutshell, is how we got where we are today.

Blogging, blogging...

We've joined what seems to be the latest craze! Actually, Holly just got sick of writing the same email over and over when people write to see what's going on here in Seaside. Therefore, we will post regularly in order to keep distant family and friends updated on life in general. Actually, the more we see of other peoples' blogs, the more we like the idea, so this will probably stick around for a while! Especially since Damien is teething, which for some reason translate into "nocturnia," and so Holly is up and bored at night fairly frequently. Feel free to check in on us anytime, we love hearing from you!
